I am a BIG fan of myths, whether Greek, Egyptian, Roman, Babylonian, Lakota, Sioux, Iroquois, Hindu, Chinese, Sufi, Japanese, Igbo...well, you get the idea. Mythcal stories, as well as re-interpretations of the myths, are an easy way to win me over.
Circe by Madeleine Miller
"Circe" by Madeline Miller is a beautiful and evocative retelling of the goddess Circe. The prose is lyrical, and raw, and emotional, and to a degree, almost musical. We see Circe come to life with great sensitivity and depth, and feel the pain of her loves, her heartbreaks, and her anger. Miller explores power as a corrupter, motherhood as love, and compassion as strength behind a beautiful backdrop of ancient Greek society and myths.
